A buddy is more than a friend. They are more like a partner, but in a none sexual way. If the relationship is sexual then they become a "fuck buddy".

A person who asked to sit with you (or vice versa) on the bus & then you sit next to them every single day, & possibly horde the seat for so only they can sit next to you.
