Fnaf is an indie horror game created by Scott Cawthon, Scott cawthon is a christian indie developer, he got some criticism for one of his games saying "the character in this game look like creepy animatronics" or something amongst those lines, Scott used this criticism as an idea for his new game, "Five Nights at Freddy's"
