Step-function

A mythical increase in transactions that is promised to appear over the horizon but never materializes, like a desert oasis.
There will be a step-function and it will shock the markey

functional-beauty

Beauty derived from functionalism.

Adjective form: "functionally-beautiful"
My friend who is an engineer, will stare at the following things, like one gazes at fine art: Wood-burning-stoves, Stirling-engines, Opticas, Orinithropters, Theremins, Brachistichrone-curves, and Derigibles; because they have a functional-beauty derived from the elegant way they achieve their goals.

Many "functionalist" buildings are not functionally-beautiful, because the designers often forego the shortest/quickest paths in favor of a cumbersome grid-like floorplan.

Functional Lunatic

Part of Speech: Noun

Definition:
A person who appears to function normally in society — holds a job, pays bills, goes to brunch — but operates with a premium-grade level of madness just beneath the surface.
Not hospitalized, not diagnosed — just vibing through life with controlled chaos.

These individuals are often charming, productive, and even inspiring... until you witness them whispering to the kettle or laughing at a traffic light.

Origin:
Coined by Onala Fatoba, Lagos, Nigeria — Circa 2025.
Inspired by daily survival in urban jungles where sanity is optional but punctuality is required.
The guy gave a TED Talk on emotional intelligence and then threatened to fight his best friend over jollof rice. Functional lunatic behavior.

He journals every morning, drinks chlorophyll water, meditates… but screams at okadas like they’re the cause of his childhood trauma. Wellness enthusiast? No. Functional lunatic

He won't go looking for trouble, but he thrives on making chaos reign

functional programming

Much in the way one who participates in heavy drinking, but can operate in normal society is a functional alcoholic: one who participates in heavy function use, but can program normal programs is doing functional programming. Functions, especially the more street available nested anonymous ones, are highly addictive and may make you want to abandon other forms of control flow entirely. Allows one to write code that operates on other code easily. Nerd Shit.
My favorite functional programming language is Idris, it's like Haskell but for nerds.

A computer can't function without an operating system

A total lie usually mentioned in computer textbooks when talking about operating systems. Older computers sometimes do not have an operating system, so this is totally a lie because these computers can still function. Also, even modern computers can make use of the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) to do some basic tasks such as viewing and changing the date.
