This is an old use and still use for this catch phrase to tell someone see you. and the answer for it after while, crocodile, alligator and crocodile were brought for the sake of rhyme.

A sexual act in which the male jumps off a 40 foot ladder, rebounds from a trampoline into a vat of curdled mayonaisse, checks to see if the editors are paying any smegging attention whatsoever to the fabricated juvenile sexual horse crap added to this dictionary daily by giggling 14 year old dimwits, then swims out to perform fellatio on a Chevy Nova. Include the word "anus," an act of random spousal abuse, puerile slander or other general troglodytism for bonus credibility.
This slang dictionary is so packed with Norwegian alligator dong flops by now that browsing it has become dull, offensive and uninformative.

A silly way of saying “goodbye,” when you or someone else is leaving. It commands a response... “After while, crocodile.”
Originating in the 1950s, the correct response to “See you later, alligator!” is “After while, crocodile!” It is NOT “In a while, crocodile,” or even “After a while, crocodile.” As with most phrases and expressions, accuracy often gets lost through the years, like a giant game of telephone, so nowadays you will hear it said all three ways, but there is an original, correct way. “AFTER WHILE, crocodile!” :)

Named for a scene from the animated film "All Dogs Go To Heaven" featuring an alligator singing an over the top musical number with no relation to the plot that is never mentioned again in the movie afterward, a big-lipped alligator moment is a moment of intentional intense randomness and absurdity.
my friend was talking about his classes and suddenly had a big-lipped alligator moment and talked about his banjo playing skills for 30 seconds.
