When a very large number of people hold onto a completely ridiculous and bogus belief, no matter how extensively it is disproven, to push an agenda, while often even knowing deep down that it is inherently untrue.

Examples of the litterbox effect include:
- Schools supposedly placing litterboxes in bathrooms for furry students (the namesake of the effect)
- Anti-vaccine sentiment
- Climate change denial

One can also experience heavy-duty slide-effects from not spreading ice-melter on his steps and sidewalks during da colder months.

The mental and physical trauma that occurs to a person as a result of being a third wheel in a date between said third wheel's friend and date. Usually involving Burro and popcorn.

The Hony Effect is when people get emotionally attached to one of the photos & captions on the Humans of New York page on facebook. Essentially everyone is a star, an artist, a musician, destitute and needs your help. Everyone will feel sympathy for whoever is in the photo because it is HONY and only because it is HONY.
