After years of chasing discontinued versions and overspending on aged perfumes, they ultimately realize the differences were exaggerated—or entirely imagined. In reality, vintage perfumes only smell noticeably different when they have gone rancid with age. The term critiques the pseudoreligious obsession with reformulations and the belief that modern perfumery is inherently inferior to the past.
The term combines “reformulation” with “oomfie,” a Twitter slang term for “one of my followers” and was coined by Jack Mason of The Perfume Nationalist Podcast.
