Formally described as an homogeneous, inorganic compound by Webster (who was later found to be a book and considered unfit for living due to Darwin's theory).According to Lewis Carroll, however, in his writing a character asks `Are you animal--vegetable --or mineral?' in a savy, yet failed, attempt to identify the main character's race. This shows us that 'mineral' can also be used to classify those who are unknown to us.

In short- Def mineral: A classification to all things with a molecular composition be they organic or inorganic.
