Catholic for Convenience

Can apply to two related groups.

1. Parent of a child who needs to get said child into a Catholic School. This parent and or parents haven't been to mass in at least a decade, Christmas doesn't count. They definitely have no interest in their child being indoctrinated by the clergy but need a good school for their child. Most common in the Republic of Ireland as 90% of the schools are controlled by the Vatican and you aren't getting your child enrolled with a Baptismal Cert. Can also apply to parents within the feeder area for a good Catholic school anywhere on earth.

2. A child that has been baptised to have the paperwork to get into a Catholic School. Has only been in a Roman Catholic Church once and that was for the Baptism.
Brian: "There goes Maeve Brannigan, she was only baptised last week, first time I've ever seen her in a church. 4 years old is late for baptism!

Anne:" Her parents couldn't get into St. Patrick of the Immaculate Conception without the Baptismal Cert. They've joined the 'Catholic for Convenience' Club, we'll see them in mass next at Maeve's First Communion. Can't say I blame them! It was an administrative decision!

That would be convenient for you

But it's not going to be.

Hym "You're already shedding support and coworkers. How many of you are going to have your lives collapse just to cover up the truth? We know the full list of names. You turn on the person who convinced OR EXTORTED YOU into silence OR child murder. Potentially mass child murder. I might not even have to stab one myself. All I may need to do is have a stroke while I'm alone in my apartment and when the people surveilling me daily (upto and including while I'm being recorded at work (and the fine people at the Majority Report have referenced this on several occasions) and in the comfort of my own home) see that I am no longer showing up to work, word gets out and the other people you are doing this to who are holding out hope than I will succeed will take up arms and avenge me. Why throw all these lives away just to pretend you beat someone who was threatening your kids? It's make believe! It's pretend. You aren't winning. THERE IS NO WINNING. There is only the targeted harassment that resembles the delusions of reference commonly associated with schizophrenia, the people to whom it's happening, and the creation of AI (For which I am directly responsible). These punits will sit there and watch me die or they will sit there and watch me stab your kids just to make a point about rape porn.
A point that I refuse to accept and doesn't actually matter because I have yet to rape anyone, don't need to proven wrong, and don't care. I don't care. Stop trying to make it about rape. You are not more important than me just because your hole feels good and the fact that you are fucking does not give you authority over me. They will sit there and pretend it never happened and That would be convenient for you but if it is it will also be child-life-ending so I'm telling your right now you had better just let it go. But the parents will know exactly why their kids died and they will tell 2 friends and those friends will tell 2 friends and all of the sudden everyone will agree that you should have just paid me for creating AI for you and stopped the people who were manufacturing a mental illness from doing that.

The fallacy of assuming that it's possible to convince or argue with anyone about anything—even the most absurd, unacceptable, or monstrous positions—through sufficient rationality, evidence, and persuasion. The fallacy ignores that some positions are not reached through reason and cannot be dislodged by it. You cannot argue someone out of a position they didn't argue themselves into. The defender of slavery, the apologist for genocide, the advocate of racist policies—these are not positions that yield to evidence because they were not based on evidence. The Fallacy of Invisible Convincing is beloved of those who believe that all disagreement is misunderstanding, that all conflict can be resolved through dialogue, that the only problem is insufficient communication. It's a noble fallacy, but a fallacy nonetheless.
Example: "He spent years trying to convince his racist uncle that racism was wrong—studies, arguments, personal stories, everything. Nothing worked. The Fallacy of Invisible Convincing had promised that reason would prevail; reason didn't. Some positions are not reachable by argument because they were not reached by argument. He finally understood: you can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into."

The fallacy of assuming that it is possible to convince or argue with anyone about anything—including positions so extreme, so absurd, so morally repugnant that they should be beyond the pale of debate. The Fallacy of Impossible Convincing imagines that reason is omnipotent, that every position can be engaged, that no topic is off-limits for discussion. It leads people to "debate" whether slavery should be reinstated, whether genocide has merits, whether racism is defensible—as if these were open questions rather than settled horrors. The fallacy ignores that some positions are not reached through reason and cannot be dislodged by it. Engaging them as if they were reasonable gives them legitimacy they don't deserve.
Example: "He insisted on debating whether racism had any merits—'just to hear all sides.' The Fallacy of Impossible Convincing had convinced him that every position deserved a hearing, that reason could handle anything. But some things aren't positions; they're atrocities. Engaging them as arguments legitimizes what should only be condemned. He wasn't being open-minded; he was being complicit."
