A neurodevelopmental condition characterized by impaired social skills and restricted interests or repetitive behavior. Symptoms usually begin in early childhood.
Although most people with autism spectrum disorder (people "on the spectrum") are functionally impaired, some thrive occupationally or academically, especially people with Asperger's syndrome, who have no delays in language development and/or IQ.
A common misconception is that people on the spectrum lack empathy, the affective part of empathy seems to be unimpaired compared to people without the condition. This means that people on the spectrum often have the capacity for compassion and morality.
Complications include bullying, unemployment (prevalence of about 90%), suicide and self-harm.
Treatment is limited and the efficacy of specific interventions has been disputed.
The heritability of the condition is about 90%. Specific environmental risk factors known to contribute to the condition include autoimmunity. Disproven environmental factors include vaccines.
Although the condition causes significant suffering for many, some have disputed the characterization as a disorder altogether, especially because the restricted interests commonly seen in the condition can include occupationally or socially useful subjects like math or physics. People on the spectrum often hyperfocus on their area of interest.
Several historical figures like Einstein are claimed to have been on the spectrum, these claims are unproven.

Get the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) mug.Autism swarm dynamics is the act when one person, typically a young child a school, does something autistic and all his friends follow suit. This forms a “meme-like” culture over that thing, thus the idea itself moved amongst the social structure like a swarm. It spreads and burrows itself into the psyche of the human mind, thus forming a behavioural pattern which is seen to some as “autistic”.

In #announcements on discord.gg/thegalacticrepublic server, admin StemmedAxis06 pinged everyone with the word "Bababoey". This was an autistic thing to do as it had 0 contextual preface in this server that was well known, as well as not being a proper announcement. However, autistic children are very similar in brain patterns to Redditors. And we (discord members) are all Redditors. The everyone bababoey meme spread to the other staff and then the group leaders in their own announcement channel. Because of great Autism Swarm Dynamics influence, the meme continues to appear in various text channels.

Get the Autism Swarm Dynamics mug. When people recognize that autism and disability are a part of the human diversity. When people understand that autistics are no different than everyone else. When people find support groups and accommodations that help autistics become the best people they can be. When people are OK with working with autistics instead of trying to "cure" them. When people understand that they need to have patience when interacting with autistics. When people celebrate and are proud of who autistics are.
Autism Acceptance centers the voices of autistics. It celebrates the autistic culture, and tells people that autistics are valuable to families, communities, and to the entire world exactly as they are EVERY SINGLE DAY (not just on the month of April). Autism Acceptance is when people create a better, more fair, and more inclusive world for everyone (with and without autism).

I appreciate it when people support Autism Acceptance because it shows that they truly respect and care about those who have autism, like me.
When people understand that I don't need a cure for autism because they accept who I am as a person, not only does it make everyone's lives better and easier, but it makes the world a much better place.
