The instigator had followed a similar path to power as Jim Jones, though she went with a more yoga/spiritual based branch (as female cult leaders often do), wheras Jim Jones went with a more openly religious/traditional religious based branch to his path to power (as male cult leaders often do). Each of them had the yoga gatherings or church gatherings as a way to connect their tentacles with/manipulate mass gatherings of people, people that were expected to lay there and let the cult leaders walk over them.

Idiom. Used as, "That's another crack in the brick path", or, "Those are cracks in the brick path." A saying used to describe an event or situation that could eventually be detrimental in the future, but is sustainable and superficial for the present.
