Scientific Method Bias

The specific bias where one treats a particular understanding of the scientific method—usually the simplified hypothesis-experiment-conclusion model from textbooks—as the exclusive, universal, and timeless template for all legitimate knowledge-seeking. Scientific Method Bias dismisses historical sciences (geology, astronomy, evolutionary biology) because they can't run experiments, social sciences because they can't fully control variables, and any inquiry that doesn't match the template as somehow less valid. It mistakes one useful procedure for the procedure, one historical development for the timeless standard, one cultural product for the universal logic of inquiry.

Scientific Moralism

Scientific Orthodoxy

The established, institutionalized set of beliefs, methods, theories, and practices that define "normal science" within a given field or across the scientific enterprise as a whole. Scientific orthodoxy represents the consensus view—what most scientists accept as true, what textbooks teach, what funding agencies support, what journals publish, and what counts as legitimate scientific work. Understanding scientific orthodoxy is essential for understanding how science actually works—not just as an ideal of open inquiry but as a human institution with all the conservatism, politics, and power dynamics that entails.

A Scientific Railgun

An anime series. Better known as To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (とある科学の超電磁砲<レールガン> / "To Aru Kagaku no Reerugan"). A side story of To Aru Majutsu no Index (とある魔術の禁書目録<インデックス> / "To Aru Majutsu no Indekkusu"). This side series is focused on another main character, Mikoto Misaka (御坂美琴 / "Misaka Mikoto"), a Level 5 esper, nicknamed "Railgun" because of her ability to manipulate electricity, to allow the use of a special move that allows her to fire a projectile at several times the speed of sound. This "move" is similar to a actual railgun, a experimental Navy weapon which fires a projectile using electromagnetic force.
