basically a backhanded compliment but instead of it sounding like a compliment but is a subtle insult, it sounds like an insult but is a subtle compliment.
kid 1: “dang bro, you suck at playing your instrument, but you’re the best in your section, which is good, i guess”
kid 2: “that was the worst backfronthanded compliment i’ve heard, but thanks”
kid 1: “you’re welcome”

On December 19th everyone compliments the owner, only saying nice things, and the owner can do nothing about it

A complement sandwich is when you have a negative thing to tell someone, but you sandwich it between two complements.
My boss came up to me today and said "I love your tie! You suck at your job. Great catch at the softball game!"
Thanks for the compliment sandwich, jerk.

Example of a barbed compliment:
"You're a very smart person, but you're so lazy that you can never get any work done. The only thing you're actually good at is being nice to people, and even that is a lie, because of how selfish and self-centered you are. You're honestly just a burden to everyone who knows you."

Pay a compliment: Flatter or praise to someone.
He paid her a compliment when he told her she looked like a model

Kind of person who overreacts an everyday compliment like "you look amazing", says it's inconvenient and inappropriate and/or goes full Karen about it until the other person regrets being born / having said a word.
Oh no, he said "beautiful"? How dare he!... Honey, stay strong. You're still here. You're a compliment survivor.

When someone leaves what seems like a nice, innocent comment but is actually a sneaky way of congratulating themselves. Usually for something that doesn't deserve congratulations.
This comment left on a soundtrack that was used in the Umbrella Academy series:
Sneak self-congratulation compliment: "Thank you umbrella academy for reintroducing this to the next generation."
It seems like an innocent comment, but is actually a way for the commenter to congratulate themselves for knowing the soundtrack before it was in the series. The commenter also believes that they are better than the people who are just now discovering it, and that he/she should get a reward for knowing the song for a longer period of time.
