Most people tend to have walls when they've been hurt emotionally hurt or even physically. It's either that or they're scared to get hurt. According to failed romance in the cinema, the failed love is often portrayed as a devastating hurt that leads to a depression or even a suicide. The aspect of getting hurt tens d to lead people to overthink they're fate with love thus creating a boundary or wall between them and it. This technique is very good at preventing any source of hurt but in doing so also very good at preventing any source of happiness.
