democrat

1. Anybody who thinks that everybody is equal, all races, sexes, and religions (unless you don't feel that way, then we'll discriminate against you)
2. Anybody who relies on science and numbers as evidence, as opposed to the bible. Seriously, that was written 2000 years ago, and it's been proven wrong.
3. Anybody whos been to school: type 'IQ John Kerry George' Bush into Google, look at second result.
4. Somebody who realizes that children, while a great bundle of joy, cost on average $210,000. People who also realize that, if you going to start a war, you should have a reason, and 'crusade against evil' does not qualify because that's not a fact, its subjective (meaning that it's a Point of view).
5. Democrats know that people who got money stolen from them by corupt lobbyists like Tom DeLay should have some given back to them.
6. Somebody who knows what a globe is and whats it's used for: 50% of all americans cannot find Iraq, 12% of them are not republican, if youre slow, thats 88% that cannot find it are republican. If thats not dumb enough, 35% cannot find NYC, and something like 90+% of them are republican. Ironic because they use that as the basis of many of their arguments.

Also, whoever said that it was the Republicans who freed the slaves, you are right, but keep in mind it was against a Christian Democrat opponent they were facing. Today, the majority of Christians vote Republican. It's not the cover of the book you should be looking at, it's the content, genius.
George W. Bush has used over 600 'executive passes', something that allows you to pass a law for 'National Security reasons'.This number, if you are aware, is MORE THAN EVERY OTHER PRESIDENT COMBINED.

Dick Cheney shot a guy in the face thinking its a bird no larger than a piece of paper, and nothing happens. Meanwhile, a fifteen year old gets a life sentence for accidently killing his neighbor while practicing wrestling moves in his backyard.

Note: I may be a hardcore democrat, but i support Bush's idea to make a wall between Mexico and USA. That may be the only god decision hes made.

1. One belonging to the United States Democratic Party

2. Tend to believe that government should come to the aid the most disadvantaged in society (see Unemployment Insurance, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security). We don't bring it up much, but it's what Jesus taught.

3. Belive in the separation of church and state, on the off-chance that not everyone in America is a Southern Baptist.

4. Doesn't believe that industries have the unfettered right to dump carcinogens into our water supplies. Also believe in protecting public health and worker safety.

5. Believe in strengthening public education, rather than gutting it with vouchers.

6. Belive in civil liberties and equal rights for all people, regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation; a Democratic President pushed through the Civil Rights Act even though it meant losing half of his party. That half, comprising mostly of racist whites, now overwhelmingly votes Republican.

7. Most have actually read the 9th amendment. Can also spell "amendment."

8. Represent broadest spectrum of the American public: women, blacks, Latinos, gays, Jews, seculars, immigrants, union workers, and yes, also straight middle-class white male Protestants like me.
If they were alive today, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt would be Democrats.

democrat

Those who support democracy, since the word democrat is derived from the word democracy. A political party opposite of republican, though, sometimes, hard to distinguish based on current well-known democrats who have been more republican-like such as Bill Clinton and Tom Daschle. A true democrat supports the welfare of everyone, as opposed to the welfare of only the 10% upper class.
An extremist democrat would be a communist, while an extremist republican would be a nazi.

democrat

democratic principles are generally based on equality, toleration, and justice (unlike the self-serving, selfish policies of the republican party)

for example:

1)abortions are sometimes necessary to protect the health and life of a woman, especially in cases of rape, incest and danger to the mother. republicans prefer to criminalize abortion. democrats do not support abortion, they support the CHOICE to have an abortion. no mother would make that choice unless she absolutely had to.

2)citizens born into low income families and neighborhoods are born in a difficult situation that is hard to escape and should be assisted by the government through social welfare programs so they can take steps to escape poverty and prevent the cycle from recurring. this would solve many inner city problems such as gang violence and drug abuse. welfare is not a handout, it is a program, and without it many americans would have nothing.

3)there is no need for every american citizen to own a gun. this amendment in the constitution was referring to a time of war when the battles were being fought in the home country. putting guns in the hands of civilians is putting guns in the hands of criminals - because criminals are civilians after all. also, thousands of accidental deaths occur every year as a result of keeping a gun in the home and the possession of a gun is dangerous and easily abused.

4) taxes are necessary to build roads, fund schools and fund other social programs that are necessary for a healthy and succesful society. many americans are allergic to the idea of "raising taxes" but democrats believe that higher taxes are better than low taxes and underfunded schools. after all, all taxes we pay contribute to the quality of the society that we ourselves live in.

5) capital punishment is not justice, it is murder. there is no "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth" because humans have no right to play God and decide whether another human deserves to live or die. a life of imprisonment is no slap on the wrist and is the closest to justice that a civilized society can come. we are the only non-third-world country where capital punishment is still legal and through mistakes made in the justice system, several innocent or partially innocent people have been killed.

7) the "American way" is not the only way. this country is the bully on the global playground and democrats believe that attentions should be more focused on the problems at home, such as the economy. most other countries either despise the USA or make fun of it and repeatedly using words such as "liberty" and "freedom" (for example "freedom fries") is pure propoganda.

A democrat is one of five possible degrees of view. (the five being radical, liberal, moderate, conservative, and reactionary) The moderate is a neutral standpoint where radicals and liberals are degrees of democrats (radicals being the extreme) and conservatives and reactionaries being the republican viewpoints (reactionaries being the extreme)

The democratic view point changed to be more of a moderate party during the 2006 midterm senate elections. Today we classify a democrat as someone who believes in:
-Privacy with limited government observation
-Pro-choice, but with certain limitations such as that partial birth abortions should not be allowed.
-Protection of the environment through uses of alternative fuel sources and cleaner practices, though not so much that our standards of life decrease.
- A strong government that helps people through well fare, shelters, and other means of aid, though not a governemt that will allow "mooching"
- Taxes being left as percentages, so everyone has to pay _% of their income to taxes, with exceptions for the extreme cases of poverty.

the symbol for a democrat is a donkey while the republican is an elephant. Also, democrats are generally represented by the color blue while the republicans are represented by red.

During the 109'th congress, the democrats where the majority composition of the house of representatives.
have tried to disregard my own viewpoints while writing this. Please take into consideration that most democrats and republicans are liberals and conservatives, not reactionaries and radicals. Most people think of the opposing party as radicals or conservatives simply making more tension. Both parties have some pros to them and both have some cons.
