A term used to describe many Chinese criminal organizations. They are the most well-known organized crime group in China, Hong Kong, and Macao. They originated in the anti-Manchu resistance in China. The term "triad" comes from the three dots which form part of the Chinese character for the Ming Emperor Hung Wu. The Triads began as "Men of Hung." They were both part of the political resistance of the Han Chinese to the Manchu dynasty, as well as outlaws who "Ta fu — chih p'in" (Hit the Rich and help the poor).
Both the Chinese Triads and the Italian Mafia and Camorra have existed at least since the early 1800s. The Triads spread all over the world and control much of the illegal and informal economy in overseas Chinese communities.

There are more than 57 triad groups that are active in Hong Kong; some of them are no more than small, local street gangs. The Sun Yee On Triad, Flying Dragons, Ghost Shadows, Wah Ching, Wo Hop To Triad, 4 Seas, are considered Triads because they're Chinese blooded. They can do organized crime like the Italian Mafia, as well as blast at people, jump people, rob people, shoot out rival gangbangers just like black gangs, & vatos do. The younger heads, that can be just 13 damn years old, do the dirty work for the Dai Lo's to earn their respect. They're usually marked in the gang by showing loyalty, getting tattoos, and cigarette/insense burns all over the body. Prostitution and gambling is the bread and butter for most Triads.
The Triad was getting into trouble with some street gang, so one called his Chinese brothers in Hong Kong to come. So they take the next flight to America and blast the shit out of these faggots and also their family.

A name for organized crime based in Hong Kong or mainland China, also used to denote a member thereof. Note: You can't say "Jin-Wa belongs to a gang named the Triad." This would be akin to saying "Corleone belongs to a gang named the Mafia." No, you say "Jin-Wa was a Triad," or "Jin-Wa belonged to the Triads."
