Skinny shaming

Shaming someone who is naturally thin by always pointing it out, or making little comments based on their weight with the intention of making them feel shameful about their naturally thin size. Often it is done by personal comments and remarks or asking questions about if they diet or go to the gym, when in fact, they are often naturally skinny.

"Look at that girl over there. She's practically a toothpick".
"Oh my god, stop skinny shaming".

"Brrrr it's freezing out here".
"You are so cold because you're so thin".
"Oh shut up, and stop skinny shaming".

skinny shaming

When someone is naturally skinny and people tell them that they need to eat a cheeseburger. Basically, shaming someone for being skinny because you think that they are choosing to be skinny when in fact they aren't. Often confused with pointing out someone is anorexic. That's different.

"Wow, she needs like a million steaks right now."
"Dude, stop skinny shaming!"

Beard shaming is defined as inappropriate negative statements and attitutes toward a man's beard. It can also reach into the discrimination against individuals who may have un-matured beards. A backlash against beard shaming has resulted in the coining of the term itself and attempts to bring a more positive attitude toward diverse beards of all sizes and styles.

Calling out a person who passed gas in order to embarrass them or notify others of their act.

Dude, don't fart shame him.

I have had a bad stomach recently and people keep fart shaming me every time I pass gas.

life shaming

When you are shamed for your life decisions. These shames are usually related to your life style, your professional choices, your habits, or your social life. The shaming is usually done by someone who is already settled in life or someone who expects you to already be settled in life.

Example 1:

Single Male: "I can't believe our friend from high school is getting married. He told me after he is getting married that he plans to immediately move to the country so he can start a family."

Friend: "Friend, that is what some people do and is not unusual. I don't mean to be life shaming you, but in five years time he will have a family and you will still be in grad school trying to earn a PhD."

Example 2:

Father: "Why are you still single? Your mother is not getting any younger, and she wants grand kids."

Son: "Thanks for the life shaming, dad."

Example 3:

Mother: "Why are you still single? You are not getting any younger, and I want grand kids."

Daughter: "Thanks for the life shaming, mom."

Wrong-shaming

Wrong shaming is when somebody shames you for being wrong.

She wouldn't go around body -shaming people or mocking people for being old so why is it okay to go after me because I'm wrong? She's wrong-shaming me!
