A place where individuals of an oppressed group can go to find community with other individuals of the same group without feeling the threat of harassment or violence. People who are against the idea of safe spaces often misconstrue them as a place to escape reality, when actually they are places people go to understand the collective reality of oppression and find support. A safe space is not ignorant of hard realities, it's just a place where people can go to exist without fear of harassment based on parts of their identity.

Safe space

A place where people can be safe from all the dickheads and morans who don't even know where the word comes from and who have literally never been systematically oppressed in their entire lives. The first safe spaces were gay bars in the 60s when people beat the shit out of gays and it was in fact illegal to be gay. Nowadays the word is used to describe a place where no-one harasses, persecutes or shames others. It is a place where one doesn't have to listen to the bullshit of people who lack empathy, social skills and brains because they are so fucking privileged. But for some assholes this is too much.
