Technically, the word was created improperly and is very much misnamed. Sexual should be taken out of the word because the sexual part of metro sexual is merely to relate the term to homosexual. In actuallity, metrosexuality has nothing to do with sexuality at all. A metrosexual is just a man who cares a great deal about outward appearance and sensitivity.

Well educated, secure, knows what he wants in his life. Believes in quality than quantity. Definitely, not gay, always want to make sure he is up to date in fashion, style, and usually the trend maker, open to new things as long it is viable!
Tom Cruise, Leonardo DeCaprio

A modern term, referring to a "new" bred of male.
"new" meaning, it has been pointed out or emphasized by the media through celebrities and idealistic thinking.
Usually used to describe males who have feminine tendencies such as interests in fashion, personal hygiene, life style, etc. Mannerism has smaller influence with being "metro sexual", metro sexual can behave like the common male on for instance. The aesthetics and inner attitude is where they can differ.
Usually refered to as being almost homosexual, except prefers the female gender... or rather themselves.

An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.
At dinner the other night, my date listed the calorie count of the main entrees, raising an eyebrow at my chicken Alfredo selection after he had ordered a salad. I saw him check his reflection in the silver water pitcher three times. During dessert, he looked deeply into my eyes and told me he thought what we have together is very special. It was our third date.
It was then that I realized why my dating life has been as mysterious as the Bermuda Triangle since I arrived in Washington. This city, unlike any other place I've lived, is a haven for the metrosexual. A metrosexual, in case you didn't catch any of several newspaper articles about this developing phenomenon (or the recent "South Park" episode on Comedy Central), is a straight man who styles his hair using three different products (and actually calls them "products"), loves clothes and the very act of shopping for them, and describes himself as sensitive and romantic. In other words, he is a man who seems stereotypically gay except when it comes to sexual orientation.
