Hero is the gender neutral term, as the word 'hero' had nothing to do with the word "he". One comes from Greek, one from Old English.
In Greek legend there's actually a woman called Hero as in the tale of Hero & Leander.

The game features a pink dragon that you try to catch but you can never catch the dragon. In order to get boosts to help you not catch the dragon you shoot-up with Heroine. This game was designed to mellow you out when you can't meet Rock Bands or Guitar Heroes standards. (Game created on South Park)

2. It is used to taunt a girl when she does something stupid or ridiculous but imagines that she has done something remarkable or heroic, and is well pleased with herself about it.
The girl taunted is expected to correct herself or give an explanation for what she has done after this is said to her.
The taunt can be followed by further questioning using "why," "what," when" or how."
When you want to taunt a guy, you say "Hello hero!?"
