A sleazy marketing ploy used by kava bars to swindle their totally-not-dependent customers into repetitively purchasing rounds of "shells" in intervals of 15 minutes on the hour like little robots.

Example: The kava tender pours her 37th shell of the night, raises it up and says "Shells up". She waits for all of the other kava addicts to raise their shells. Once shells are raised, she yells "BULA!" to command everyone to chug their little bowl of dirt water while the owner collects his cash.
"Gee that was the 14th time the kavatender. yelled BULA tonight. Maybe I should buy 4 shells in the next hour to keep up. Guess I won’t have money to pay my rent this month!”

Bulă is a very unique and elegant Romanian name. It's paronym (one letter away) for one of the most important words in our language. We can't mention it here, but it translates as "beautiful". It rhymes with a lot of important words such as "sulă", "căciulă" and "basculă". A Bulă is a gentleman who never breaks his word, but above all, an incredible friend. You can always count on them, but beware of a Bulă's charm, he can easily make you fall in love with him.
- It's a boy! What should we name him?
-I think Bulă is a briliant name.
