This may be used at times since it's not easy to convey this emotion through text or emojis since emojis and text are only capable of producing primitive emotions like confusion and anger and... being a rock. So to not cause confusion... this will sometimes be used, but not too much since it's a bit niche and may be confused with words like /b/ but otherwise could possibly be used much more.

/s typed after a remark means you are completely serious about whatever you are saying. If it is after what appears to be a joke, /s means the writer us not joking.
