Alcahuete

It used to mean matchmaker. Now, especially in Uruguay and Argentina, it means a person who praises others to obtain favors or otherwise gain something from them. They might also be doing it because they're weak in some way and want to be seen with good eyes by the person they're adulating. It's usually used as an insult.

A: Sorry for our pathetic Foreign Affairs Minister who decided to behave like a child. It was a shame what they didm That warning we sent is not supported by the majority of the thinking population in Uruguay and hopefully our terrible government will be replaced soon se we won't have any more diplomatic blunders like these.
