A hair trim is to touch up your hair style; to trim off all the split ends.

Joe thought the term "haircut" in his CPA exam bet meant to only cut one strand of hair.

Joe should have done his homework before entering into the contract as he was mistaking "haircut" for a "hair trim". A haircut is a completely different style or cutting off several inches. See haircut.
