The Zetas, once the military wing of the Gulf Cartel, is now among one of the most violent groups in Mexico. Members of this group have been linked to a death threat delivered to the president of Guatemala, a grenade thrown into a bar in Pharr, the death of a high-ranking military general in Cancun, and a fair share of the organized crime-related deaths registered in Mexico.
