Pick-me

A term used to refer to those perceived as going out of their way to fit in with/appeal to members of a dominant group within their society. The pick-me is usually a member of a marginalized group within that society.

Flat-picking

Flat-picking refers to a paneling style in which manga panels are arranged in a flat, grid-like or planar structure, emphasizing surface layout over depth, perspective, or dynamic panel breaking. The composition reads as orderly, stable, and spatially “flat,” with panels aligning cleanly and evenly, often reinforcing calm pacing, clarity, or thematic stillness.

Fujimoto uses flat-picking during dialogue scenes to keep the reader grounded.

Flat-picking contrasts with dynamic or fractured panel layouts that suggest motion or chaos.

An expression advising someone to pick a grave plot. Usually used if someone is likely going to die.

Person 1: I think I’m good to drive home.
Person 2: Pick a plot before you do. You’re way too drunk to drive.

When a man/woman is seeking validation from other people for self esteem
