An E-girl is a subculture derived from social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram and is typically categorized by winged eyeliner, vibrant and heavy eyeshadow, and a child-like aesthetic often associated with anime and cosplay. The terms "e-girl" and "e-boy" are derived from "electronic boy" and "electronic girl", due to their association with the internet. More recently, the term egirl has also been altered into something negative. It can often be used as an insult to describe attractive women on apps like TikTok or online game streaming platforms like Twitch. The typical outfit includes oversized band t-shirts or mesh tops paired with high-waisted pants or plaid skirts. Colorful hair clips and facial piercings can also be part of the e-girl look, as can a slight but intentional resemblance to Anime characters. They can also be found on twitch, the difference between a normal girl who plays video games and an egirl is that an egirl begs for money or sells herself for it.
