Something particular to New York State that is asinine in nature, very inconvenient, and benefits no one.
What is this "preparation tax?" Oh, it's a tax for having the guy make your sandwich. It's so the business can pay it's DoDo extinction tax. It's a New York thing.

New York 1/8th
A New York 1/8th refers to a common measurement for marijuana in NYC, particularly in the pre-legalization era of the mid-2000s. While an eighth (1/8th of an ounce) is traditionally 3.5 grams, in New York City, it was widely accepted that an "eighth" usually meant 3.0 grams—a well-known but rarely contested shorting of weight.
This was an open secret among buyers and sellers, a subtle nod to the city's hustle culture. Rather than being seen as a ripoff, it became an inside joke—a shared understanding between both parties that the NYC market had its own rules. Over time, the term evolved beyond just weed and is now used to describe any situation where someone knowingly accepts a slight shortcoming with a sense of pride and humor.
Whether you're reminiscing about pre-legalization pickups or recognizing a familiar NYC-style short, the New York 1/8th is a term of endearment, not a complaint.

The overwhelming feeling of despair felt by someone who has escaped from New York upon returning. Usually felt within the first hours of arrival or with the sight of specific landmarks.
Felt most commonly by those from downstate NY with family or business ties that keep them coming back.

Coworker: I hear you moved to West Virginia, nothing but hicks out there right?
Me: No, it's actually quite advanced outside of the worst of the hollers.
Coworker: But do you ever miss home?
Me: Already do since I drove out 19 hours ago.
Coworker: Wow, you've got the New York Blues!

The world’s best state. But please. Don’t call NYC “The Big Apple”. I’m not a Mets fan. It’s cloudy a lot though. Go Yankees.
