Make it up to 

Idiom.
To "make it up to someone" means to do something nice for them after you've messed up, like buying them a drink after you forgot their birthday or bailing them out of jail after a wild night. It's all about trying to smooth things over when you've been a total jerk.

Example: "I totally flaked on our plans, so I’m gonna make it up to her by taking her out for a night of debauchery and enough booze to forget I’m an idiot."

This is the art form of taking something nice, and in a core ass way making it look cool by making it look "low budget" or "less desirable". The goal is to make a functional piece or machine look like madmax got ahold of it.
