What the fuck is Dubstep?
by 3rr0r 4O4 July 31, 2018
A genre of electronic music that is typically 140 BPM with a half time kick and snare drum pattern.
Dubstep originated in the early 2000's in London. A combination of Dub, which is very similar to what most people call Reggae, and 2-Step Garage, which is where the heavy bass elements of Dubstep come from.
Dubstep today is very different from when it first originated. People unhappy with this "evolution" decide to call it apart from the Dubstep they know and love with the name Brostep.
As a person who enjoys both "types" of dubstep it is hard to put a label on them. The only thing upsetting about this genre is the amount of hate and ignorance that goes back and forth between people who discuss it.

Dubstep is the result of sounds that are produced after dumping spoons, forks, other cutlery, your neighbor’s cat, a car’s engine, nails, hammers, and a WHOLE chalkboard into a blender. Then, having someone play an electronic nose flute while his buddy throws a speaker out of a window. Compile all those sounds together while turning the volume up to 200 decibels. This will break the sound barrier and your eardrums will literally be obliterated. Major bleeding will occur. Contact an ENT IMMEDIATELY after listening.

Dubstep is a progressive style of drum and bass. Mainstream has a hate-love relationship with it, and as its popularity grows it signals waves of two hand in hand truths within our taste of music. Most would say good dubstep is dirty, but I wouldn't even a dub an artist as a dubstepper you can feel its grime. You will find the few eargasmic artists that are recognized for their rhythmic timing or feel-good remixes. To this, you will find the devoted fans and on the other hand, those who don't see its magnificence. My personal opinion is that if you should appreciate dubsteps' consistent "bass drops" and odd frequencies, you must know the history. Dubstep a few years ago is not what it is today. Track the steps of dub to find what you've been missing. You either love it or hate it, track it or create it.
In relevance to a dirty remix: "(artist) just got dubstepped on!" "as soon as the bassdrop hits i feel a shiver go down my spine and end at my toes" "dirtier than my internet history" "dubstep sounds like elephants farting and shooting water out of their trunks" "I wish I knew how to make dubstep"
