A very misunderstood band. Most punks refer to them as "too poppy" or "g@y @$$ sh!T sellouts". While in reality, Blink 182 started out as a very punk band. They were inspired by bands such as NOFX the Descendents, The Vandals, and Bad Religion, covering a NOFX song in their very first EP (flyswatter), and even inviting Bad Religion to open for them, which Bad Religion accepted. The vandals also produced Blink 182's first full length album, Buddha. Blink 182 separates itself from other punk pop bands, and has true respect for their punk roots. (Singer Tom Delonge collaborated with Rancid's Tim Armstrong in a side project). While Blink's music may be more popular or poppy than other punk bands, they still have the spirit and punk background that lets us label them as PUNK-Pop. A little too poppy to be called punk, but a type of punk nonetheless. A band that has played with Bad Religion, covered NOFX, collaborated with Rancid, and worked with the vandals can't be too far from punk now, can it?

A band that everyone spends time arguing about,.. constantly.
Truth is, Blink-182 is just a fun band. People run around saying that their songs are stupid, and that they ruined "punk" music. However, as far as i know, blink-182 has never called themselves "Punk" or anything in that range.
Also: "Punk is in the eye of the beholder" keep that in mind.
Personally, *I* wouldn't describe them as punk (early stuff, maybe), either way, it's still great.
Their music embodies the childhoods of children all over america, and parts of Peru.
Although their early music may be called "easy" or "skilless" alot of their songs actually have require a large pool of musical ability. Carousel (an early song, has a killer bass part that takes some definite skill) as well as 'Man overboard'- a later song.
Any song from the "enema of state" album onward has a definitly wicked drumming part.
As far as guitar goes, it might not be complicated, but it really does MAKE the song. Which is all that matters. And that's what makes Tom a GREAT guitarist.
They where almost sued for using the name "Blink" (that they had started under) So they where forced to change their name,
they chose:
Blink *182*.
No one really knows why they chose Blink-182,
but a common theory is because
that is the number of times Tony Montana said "FUCK!" in the movie Scarface.
