Key

Something that gives somebody access to something.

If she wasn't friends with as many of Paulie Mussolini's (the name of one of the guards) enemies as she was, he wouldn't think it was possible she could be trying to finesse the key to let her and his enemies in from him by calling him cute, but he had to think of all the possibilities. People expect too much for every compliment they try to give, so Paulie Mussolini thought he shouldn't be as sparing as most people with his praise of others.
