Vocal Identity

When a person can be identified by their vocabulary & delivery rather than just their physical appearance.

Verbal Identity is one’s choice of words, phrases, voice projection, tone/pitch when communicating.

Essentially, one’s communication style.
Example: “I like her, she has a unique verbal identity that captures a room when she speaks”

Monologue:

Brendon: “I like the cute little blonde, she’s unique”

Scott: “Mate, They are all cute blondes so nothing unique here, I can’t see the difference TBH”

Brendon: “Solid point, well she’s the one that talks differently, she uses unique words & phrases to describe things, it’s kinda cute really”

Scott: “Really, how so”
Brendon: “ like when you ask her how she is, she responded with ‘magic’ or when she refers to her feet as tootsies, or cuddles as snuggies etc”

Scott: “Yeah, ok, I know what you mean, she has her own vocal identity”

Vocal vertigo

When a singer gets tense knowing that there is a high note coming up.
One of the contestants in the singing contest started singing in a strained way when the notes were not high or difficult. Then it became clear that he was suffering from vocal vertigo in fear of the high note to come.

Vocal Appropriation

When you are a bad singer and try to cover Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and so you get awfully out of pitch and then someone tries to sing it too and also get out of pitch and so they are appropriating your culture of getting out of pitch.
John: *singing I Will Always Love You out of pitch*
Mary: *also singing I Will Always Love You out of pitch*
John: Hey, I got out of pitch first. Stop appropriating my vocal capacities, that's vocal appropriation!
