In association
football, when a strong team is dominating or expected to dominate over a weaker team, the pundits/commentators often come up with the phrase "this could be a
cricket score". This means that they think the match is expected to be one sided and could end in a big win for the stronger team by a large goal margin e.g. 6-0, 7-0, 9-0. The term originates from the popular game of
cricket, where high scores are normal.
Having smashed San Marino
13-0 last September, Germany are expected to run up a
cricket score but the
German camp are doing their best to talk down any prospects of a big win.
