A city in Upstate New York. The other people that made definitions about Elmira are all wrong. Some say it is a terrible place to live, which isn't true at all. There are plenty of good and safe neighborhoods in Elmira. Also, the person that said "bad shit rarely goes down" is wrong because there has already been at least 8 shootings this year that I know of and that is a lot for a city of its size. There are ghettos, crackhouses, gangs, drugs, and many problems, but this can be found in a lot of cities.
Overall Elmira is a good place to live and does have some very nice neighborhoods. It was ranked #3 in America's Best Green Cities and has some of the best and most desirable housing in the country. Its downtown is coming back and the population is now on the upswing.

Have you ever been up on any of the hills? Its BEAUTIFUL. as is west elmira any many of the other nieghborhoods. We have many great people who came from here, and who are growing up here. they dont have to be famous. Elmira used to be much better than it is now, but you have to make it what you want to be. I personally love it and so do many of my friends. We have secret places we have found, and there are many things to do between the pine city area allll the way through elmira up to the corning/horseheads area all within a half hour drive. Come visit. ;)
