A controversial or activist topic used to deflect criticism, typically in a creative work.

The movie wasn't celebrating the culture, it was more using it. The "diversity" is that movie is such a hot button shield for their terrible writing.

A person who pretends to be 'woke' but actually is not. A fake or pretend woke person.

Don't be fooled, Jimmy is a total snooze button, he pretends to be woke and an ally but in reality he is as ignorant as ever.
