FEAR (and its variations) are typically used for a sort of Kamikazee strat that is used to simoultaneously make fun of the opponent and get rid of an otherwise annoying Pokemon. This strategy does tend to fall apart if the opponent has Psychic Terrain, a Rocky Helmet, Iron Barbs/Rough Skin, Leech Seed, or a multi-hit move.
