Something that is said for the sole purpose of setting someone off. The person then deflates and de-escalates the situation by that what was said was trigger bait.

Person 1: Whiplash is such a mid movie.

taboo bait

A work of fiction, be it anime, manga, novel, movie or whatever, that uses a controversial subject/elements to gain attention. It doesn't attempt to bring discussion or tell a serious story, but rather tries to lure in people only to make them pay money for a mediocre piece of entertainment.

The majority of love stories revolving around incest are nothing more than taboo bait. When will the society finally grow up and take this issue seriously ?

Vampire Baiting

You're done playing a great story-driven game, such as Outer Wilds, Subnautica or Omori and you want more... but the game has zero replay value. You already played it twice and know the story by heart. You get withdrawal. You're on Youtube looking at let's-plays to try to fill a hole like you're some kind of vampire feeding on other people's first experience with the game. You eventually run out of playthrough videos, so now you have to bait everyone you know into playing the game to feed your addiction.

Was a peaceful Sunday until my partner hit me with a bicker baiting bombshell, asking why I still follow my ex on social media. Went from zero to a hundred real quick over a 'like' from 2017.
