This phrase is named after Timothy Dexter, who was known for being stupid and taking bad advice to buy or send useless items that was meant to make him poor, but ended up making him a profit due to coincidence of high demand. This phrase comes from Sam O’Nellas Academy where he said “demands went way up, dexters laughing.” video on Timothy Dexter when describing the event where he bought lots of whale bone and then coincidentally, mean wearing corsets became a big thing in France, therefore causing him to get a huge profit.
