Similar to one's frame of reference, a guy uses a game-of-reference to help jog his memory of something important that has happened, but he can't exactly remember when it happened or the circumstances surrounding it. This most always refers to some sporting event the guy was at or was watching. This is an especially helpful tool to recall mundane things your wife/gf tells you and expects you to remember.
John: "Bro, it's time to fucking pregame and slay some fuckmeat."
Tom: "Huh? It's 7:15 and we usually don't start until 9. When did we change it?"
John: "Don't you remember me telling you Sunday?"
Tom (after thinking a minute using football as a game-of-reference): "Ohhh ya, that was during the Packers/Cardinals playoff game. I remember you telling me right after regulation ended."

A period of time between 1987 to 2000 where most Television media, specifically comedies, used references as a sense of humor, notably comedies on NBC had this in mind. The shows have a huge audience for people without internet access and have never had an interest in newer comedies.
Guy 1: Seinfeld is an Era of References show, for example, the episode "The Scofflaw" has Kramer in an eyepatch, referencing Nick Fury from the Avengers.
Guy 2: Oh, and is Friends an Era of References show?
Guy 1: Yes, in the episode "The One With The Breast Milk", Joey is in a Cowboy outfit, referencing The Lone Ranger.

You're doing what you're doing bitch
Hym "Talking about? Undoubtedly. Making reference to? Also yes. It's this or this other thing. Let's get a peak at your wife's bank account. How much did it take to buy her off? You're a guy pretending to be another guy. You're not in a position to be calling anyone a liar. Where's you rape-wife? Where's she at? Are we going to get another 'me too' here when the money runs out?"

Working (Referring to the Queen of Kings) is in reference to the unique situation where a boss and two co-workers will not cooperate during a stage rehearsal. This trio would rather do a salute instead of getting back to blocking.
"You guys have no idea what Working (Referring to the Queen of Kings) means" she said as she collapsed in a puddle of tears.
