Filter Syndrome

Term describing the phenomenon in which a band or artist releases a song or album that is a significant change in style from their previous works but ironically becomes one of their most popular hits, often to the dismay of already established fans.

The term itself derives from the industrial band Filter, whose song "Take a Picture," which departed from their hard rock/industrial sound with a more mellow ballad. The song became their most popular, peaking at #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Other examples of Filter Syndrome: Spin Doctors - "Two Princes";Sugar Ray - "Fly";Metallica - "Enter Sandman";"Weezer - "Beverly Hills"

That song wasn't like their old stuff, but it got so popular; talk about a case of Filter Syndrome.

eye filters

When there is so much junk on a web page that you have to choose what your eyeballs look at. It can also be used to look at the things you want on a page while trying to not look at the ads or *ahem* inappropriate content.

Can also be used to describe how it is possible to read the articles in certain magazines and not look at the photos.

As well, how you watch something you don't want to watch by choosing what your eyes look at. It is in your view but you are not looking at it.

I bought Playboy for the articles, and used my eye filters to block out all the nudity around the words.

The movie was so scary I couldn't watch but it was great.

I had to use William as a friend filter, there was just too much information to go through.

semi-filter

To break part of a cigarette butt to ensure maximum tobacco consumption. It was originally done to prevent smoking in contact with the butt that somebody else already placed their lips upon.

I really needed a pack of cigarettes since I was so stressed out so I said fuck and I semi-filtered that single Newport.
