It underwent a brief revival during the Harlem Renaissance as southern Latinos attempted to establish their own literary diction, but the movement was clearly overshadowed by the African-American culture that began to flourish. Its most recent success is due in a large part to the emergence of scat, and more specifically the messairick genre of pornography.
