Keep On Running

Keep On Running - a metaphor to not ever give up and to keep moving forward in life. It is based on the concept that life is journey and in your journey is a personal race to successfully get to and cross the finish line of success and accomplishment. In the race of life are your trials, tribulations, setbacks, and struggles, and it is a marathon and not a sprint. Used in the writings of The RhymistGift and The Consummate Transitioner based on Aesop’s fable “The Tortoise and the Hare.”

Life is a race, and the only way to get to the finish line is to keep on running. Keep on running your race and do not ever stop until you have crossed the finish line. The tortoise was not the swiftest or the strongest, but he won the race, because he kept on running (did not give up) and crossed the finish line. Life is not fair or equal, but you can win your personal race, if you keep on running.

Used mainly in Ireland and also sometimes in the United Kingdom. Used to encourage one to be calm, cool and not to over react under pressure.

Derives from the the involuntary thoughtless movements/convulsions that chickens experience for a brief moment after having their heads choped off.

Keep Your Jaw On

"Keep your jaw on" is a phrase used when somebody is overwrought, overly shocked, or unnecessarily upset over a trivial matter. The expression was inspired by John Glubb, a WW1 soldier who had his jaw shot off but managed to have it reconstructed using surgery. The point of the phrase was, if even somebody who's reached a situation that low managed to fix their problems, you shouldn't be reacting so badly about a smaller issue.

Popularised in Northwest England's coastal towns, the phrase is often used as a less niche form of the phrase "don't get your knickers in a twist."

PERSON 1: “Oh my God, my life is over! My phone, my beautiful phone - it's been delayed in transit. I literally don't know what to do. What the Hell should I do?”

PERSON 2: “Jesus Christ, keep your jaw on. It'll clearly get here in the end - some people have real problems.”
