Academically Correct

The enforcement of norms, terminology, and frameworks that dominate within academic institutions—often those associated with critical theory, poststructuralism, or specific disciplinary orthodoxies—as the only acceptable way to speak about certain topics. Being academically correct means using the approved jargon, citing the correct theorists, and framing issues within the dominant theoretical paradigms of one’s field. Like political correctness, it can function as gatekeeping: those outside the academy or from different intellectual traditions are dismissed as “undertheorized” or “naive,” while conformity is rewarded with status.

Example: “Her community organizing experience was dismissed by the academic panel because she didn’t use the proper critical terminology. They were being academically correct: valuing theoretical purity over practical knowledge.”

Derogatory term, used widely in the exhibition display industry, to describe a Polish courier driving a van (most commonly a curtainside). Named due to the elaborate DIY system of pipes and bags often used by Piss Carriers to enable them to urinate while on the go.

We just used a Piss Carrier delivery for the framework.
