woobie

in the united states military, classified as LINER, WET WEATHER, PONCHO, the Woobie was introduced first during Vietnam as the inner liner for the poncho, where the poncho could keep troops dry, and the liner could keep out the cold. It became such a hit though, that somehow it came to be called the Woobie out of endearment.

Maybe named for the mashup of the words "would be", maybe named for the safety blanket in the movie Mr. Mom (the young boy calls his blanket Woobie), the world may never know.....
"Don't forget your poncho liner, you Woobie (would be) cold without it."
