Active Reading

Extensively highlighting and writing all over a packet or book. Typically mandated by high school teachers. Commonly used as torture by teachers at the Cleveland High School CORE program in order to ensure the diminished social lives of their students. Never checked by teachers but required. Easy to copy from another student. BIGGEST PAIN IN THE ASS!

Student A: Hey man did you do your active reading?

Student B: No man, fuck that shit. i dont want to highlight anymore!

Teacher: Ok students now im collecting your active reading. Pass it up

Student B: DAMN IT!

Student A: Quick just highlight Anything

2 weeks later. student recieves paper back

Student B's paper: 10/10

close reading

Reading a book or poem so carefully (while constantly referencing the OED), that you suddenly discover something "new and special" about one word in the poem. This word then magically allows you to write three paragraphs about its "new and special meaning." All the while during this "close reading," you will be contemplating suicide as your face, body, and mental thought process will hurt with the agony of forced close analysis.

Bob: I've got a twenty seven page paper due tomorrow on a four line poem.

Chris: Man you better do a close reading of that poem.

grim reaping: Giving someone "the look of death," when you catch them creeping on your girlfriend, wife or teenage daughters.

Emily: Dad got really pissed at the pool yesterday and was grim reaping on some guy.

Abigail: What happened?

The precursor to the vastly popular 700 model, when released, it was more accurate than any other centerfire rifle ever, mainly due to its revolutionary, all in-house design. Available in .270 Winchester and .30-06 Calibers, the rifle was soon immensely popular among all types of hunters.

The term "reading the bible" refers to any situation that is bad, illegal, or just naughty like sex or drugs.

You and your friends are smoking pot in your room. Your mom knocks on the door and asks what your doing in there. You respond "reading the bible!"

You and your friend are talking in study hall and you are asked "So what did you and Joe do last night?" you respond "oh, ya know, we um... read the bible out loud to eachother." When really you fucked like bunnies.
