Playing for money

The act of using everything at one's disposal to win in a primarily non-competitive video-game, often times abandoning all fun aspects of said video-game.

I don't want to play with them because they're always playing for money.

Playing for Blood

To take a competition or activity so seriously that the participant is not willing to give up until significant bodily harm or death occurs, the final step beyond "playing for keeps".

It implies that the competition or activity in question will have no regard for personal safety, and any rules in regards to it normally in place will be disregarded. If it is a sport of some kind, the sport will be played in the most violent and physical way possible. The competition or activity will not end until one party wins or is physically incapacitated.

Anger: "You better stop flirting with my girlfriend, I play for blood."
Competitiveness: "If you really want to prove your better than I am, we're gonna be playing for blood."
Adrenaline high: "Don't go rock climbing with me unless you play for blood, no anchors, no rope, just us and gravity trying to kill us."

Playing Simcity

When instead of focusing on battle and conquest in any combat-oriented RTS game, you spend the resources meticulously designing your own home base/town/castle. This is detrimental outside of single-player mode.

"This little kid is just playing Simcity. Let's nuke his shit."

Spawn Pacing

A gaming strategy (usually seen in RPGs) that is tedious for the player and bizarre-looking to anyone else watching the game, in which the controllable character is maneuvered back and forth in the same space on the map in an attempt to generate some sort of event. Typically, this is done as part of grinding procedure, in hopes that a minor enemy or resource will spawn.

I'm attempting the genocide route in Undertale, but I'm doing a lot of spawn pacing waiting to kill all the enemies. Who thought cold-blooded murder would be so boring?
