A baby that is conceived during a rocky period in a marriage, when it is hoped that a baby will (even temporarily) bring the couple back together. Usually the wife plans this baby behind her husband's back and pretends to be surprised.
Lisa: I thought Rick & Joan were heading towards divorce?
Brenda: Yeah, but then Joan announced her pregnancy.
Lisa: Ooh, band-aid baby. She is too meticulous to "forget" to take her birth control.

A factor present in all institutions measuring the questionable beliefs and practices that people new to the organization must accept in order to fit in and function with others in it. The expression is derived from the Jonestown mass suicide where followers of Jim Jones drank poisoned soft drinks (off brand Kool-Aid).
Alcoholics Anonymous is a great organization, but if you join it, know that it has a Kool-Aid factor.

This popular reference refers to the specific suicide method (Purple Kool-Aid)used by the 900+ participants of the People's Temple cult in the 1970s ran by Jim Jones.

Drawn from the mass suicide of 914 followers of cult leader Jim Jones in 1978 by drinking Flavor-Aid laced with cyanide (known as the "Jonestown Massacre"). Someone who "Drank the Kool-Aid" has so bought into their leader's vision or cause they will blindly follow to their own doom.
Other companies adapted and were successful. However, James continued to believe his bosses were right not to adapt--even after the company had to file for bankruptcy. James really "drank the Kool-Aid".
