political underdog

An individual or group that is actively involved in politics who deal with issues that deal with a lot of political topics that most politicians that are from the political mainstream won't deal with, and take positions on issues that most politicians will not take. Often times the odds of them being successful are slim, even if their positions are good ideas, or the topic is worthy of the government's time and resources, and they have a decent amount of support among the civilian population, because of the amount of opposition they receive from other politicians and or political groups.
Kailani: I heard that U.S. Representative Brendan Boyle reintroduced the STABLE GENIUS Act, which would require presidential candidates to have a medical exam, including a mental health examination, and publicly disclose the results before the general election.
Ian: I heard about that. Regrettably, after the house voted to send the bill to the House Committee on House Administration, they never heard back about it. I suspect the bill might have encountered a large amount of opposition because most of the political candidates don't want to publicly admit that they have a mental health issue.

Kailani: It was generally a good idea nevertheless. Brendan is a good example of a political underdog.

Politically extinct

A: When an individual or group ceases all political activity and never becomes politically active again
B: A situation where a particular political ideology or party has so little support that it is seldom mentioned or discussed in political interactions; regardless of whether those interactions are held in public or in private
An example of a political party that is politically extinct is the Whig Party. It began going extinct in the early 1850s while trying to recover from the presidency of Franklin Pierce. It was trying to form platform to run on in future elections, but they were unable to form an effective platform and over time they began losing large amounts of support to the point at which the party eventually collapsed.

Political Parasite

Someone who makes politics their entire social identity, and won’t shut the fuck up about politics. Generally, they hate whoever espouses beliefs stemming from a party not of their own.
Don’t talk to Karen, she’s a political parasite, and will be fervently listening to every word you say, and will try to destroy your happiness based on that which she doesn’t agree. Tom is the same way, even though he’s on the opposite end of the political spectrum.

political shadow

1. A government employee whose job is not viewed to be particularly important by most of the people who don’t work for the government that run into them, but their role plays an important function in keeping the government running efficiently and effectively. Usually, their employer or the individual/s who run the department or agency, because of their position in the government, work in the public spotlight, while political shadows tend to work more in the background, or in other words in the shadows, where they are seldom noticed by the general public. Often times these people either work in jobs where they don't deal with people that often, or they work in jobs where they deal with people frequently, but their role is frequently viewed as being less important than the role held by their employer.
2. The political impact an individual or group has on the world around them
1. Dave is a political shadow. He is a policy analysist who works for the U.S. Representative Aderholt. Most of the people who encounter him don't think his role is anywhere near as important as the role his employer has in the U.S. Government; yet without Dave, the policies would not be written that well and may not be as effective in achieving what the law was intended to do. Hence, he plays a very important role in ensuring the government operates in an effective manner.
2: Alexandra has a large political shadow because of the large number of Black Lives Matter protests and women's marches she has attended over the past four to five years; along with the numerous times she has lobbied political officials on various issues related to gender equality, gun control, racial justice, education, and the Covid-19. She has a very large political impact on the world around her.
