Verb
Short for “Inbetween”; A tool featured across multiple animation platforms (such as Adobe Animate, Sticknodes, and Clip Studio Paint), used for generating pre animated frames in between user-made key frames, typically for the illusion of smoothness or to save time.

“I didn’t have enough time to manually animate the background, so I used Tween on the clouds.”

Tweening

A sub-category of animation, usually digital. Tweening is when you use an app/program to generate inbetweens.

An example of this can be seen when animation companies need to make content in less time. You split the layers of a character that you want to tween, then use keyframes and graphs.

Person A: "I want to try animating, but I'm not interested in frame by frame animation..."

Person B: "You should try tweening, it's where some animators start."
