A boy or man that essentially behaves as a boyfriend but does not receive the title or physical benefits of the position. Typically seen as a friend by the other person rather than a romantic interest. This person provides the emotional support and care that is associated with a good boyfriend but is essentially a placeholder for the other persons lack of romantic partner.

She didn't want to date me so I was basically a placeboy to her until she got her current boyfriend

Placebogod

The term placebogod is the belief in the unconscious mind as the healing . As a placebogod some may pray to ie self hypnosis in similar communication.

An atheist turns to the person who is religious and says, I prey to my unconscious mind Most Hight. As it is my placebogod. Its a part of yet a part from the conscious mind. The unconscious responds to suggestion like in hypnosis . And it has higher knowledge and wisdom than I do consciously. And.so it how I see God is within. Some people say this is the spirit that is the antenna to God for those who believe he is outside of ourselves.
But the placebo god is the message for doubting Thomas of the Christian Bible I would say.
